Turn your house into a billboard, get free mortgage

So in light of yesterday's discussion, I thought it would be a good idea to talk about a more positive outlook by an advertisement company to help current homeowners. This post about an advertisement company's novel attempt to publicize itself by turning homes into billboards. The interesting part is how adzookie plans on compensating the homeowners for the ad space; Adzookie says "it will pay the house owner's mortgage every month for as long as the home stays painted.:

Adzookie started this offer on its website just a few days ago and has received over 1000 applications. CEO Romeo Mendoza has been surprised by the feedback this strategy has already received. "It really blew my mind," Mendoza said. "I knew the economy was tough, but it's sad to see how many homeowners are really struggling." There are conditions the homeowner must meet including having the house remain painted for at least three months, and the agreement may be extended up to one year.

I personally think that its a great way for homeowners beleaguered by mortgage payments to get back on track. What do you guys think of Adzookie's attempt to raise the company's profile by paying for homeowners mortgages?

  1. Ha, even though I don't see the Adzookie's logic, this is pretty funny.

Also, the company only has enough funds to decorate 12.5 houses...

  2. I think the expression NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) applies quite well here. Although the idea is novel, I think it is quite gimmicky. But the real underlying message here isn't how great or in my opinion stupid of an idea this is, its a testament to just how desperate many Americans are to save their homes and protect their American dreams.

I would much rather see this Adzookie donate the money to a worthy cause then paint a house in a neighborhood where the exact same people will see it day after day. (Very ineffective advertising in my opinion)

This article about the company on CNN will probably generate more views to Adzookie's website than their advertising idea.

But this definitely deserves a laugh.

  3. I think this is a pretty creative example of the free market's self-correcting capabilities. A company is able to advertise while also adding some support to struggling Americans amidst a financial crisis. It's mutually beneficial (or so it seems). Given Dane's comment, clearly it would take a lot more money to see this effect the market, but at least it's something different and something that reduces the need for more government spending.

  4. I agree with Beth here. I think Adzookie is trying to find more creative ways of advertising while also helping those struggling homeowners. I applaud there efforts, even though i'm not sure how long it could last given what Chris already stated. Kind of an innovative advertising concept though.

  5. I like what Adzookie is doing a good thing here, or at least their intentions are good, but I agree with Chris that I wouldn't want my neighbors doing that. Last thing I wanna see when I look outside is a brightly painted house across the street with advertisements all over it. However, I am glad that companies such as this one is at least trying to make a difference and help out people that might lose their homes. Even though it might not be effective advertising, I think that this is a cool way to spread the word about their cause and help out a few needy people in the process.
