As was brought up in class, and with most other things, if they are used wisely and responsibly, then I suppose they could generate growth. But like I stated in class the more complex something is, the more things there are to go wrong. And since there is little in the way of regulation, it is hard to simply trust that the financial sector would act responsibly, especially given their track record over the last decade or so.
