Recessions Roll on Retirement

I know this is a little off topic, but I thought it was an interesting article regarding our elderly. Just makes you wonder what our futures entail.

  1. I guess we should all start our retirement accounts earlier and attempt to contribute the maximum each year. With a changing environment such as this it will be critical that we understand retirement saving and plan for our future.

  2. I agree with Chris. The future of retirement accounts does not look like it's going to be in our favor. Even though it's hard to save in tough times, it may be one of the only option if people want to retire at a reasonable age.

  3. Remember that these numbers are both projections and averages. With disaster comes opportunity and while I can see how the crisis and unemployment hurt current and possibly soon to be retirees I am not as worried about our generations retirement more than before the crisis. To say this is going to cost me 4-5 grand per year for the next 40 years is a bold prediction and one you can't really measure because who knows what we would have earned without the crisis.
Saving is clearly a good idea but both good strategy and discipline are needed for an effective saving plan.
