Drill! Drill! Drill!

Going along with the recent theme around gas prices, here is a CNBC video about drilling offshore. What do we think? Too soon after the Gulf oil spill?

The video dialog is a little back and forth about the safety and the potential drilling area. Kind of annoying towards the end, but I think their points are reflective of our general arguments in class.

Anyway...to drill, or not to drill? That is the question.

  1. Drilling might keep our gas prices down, but where do you start, and when does it end? We already pay some of the lowest gas prices in the world as it is. I would rather see those investment dollars going into new energy innovation, rather than the same dirty technologies. We have already shown a dire lack of preparation in cases of oil spills, and the government is in bed with the oil industry. Not to mention the fact that this recommendation only comes to the forefront when gas prices are high.

  2. I think we should not drill. We are still paying pretty low gas prices compared to other countries and I agree with Richard we should invest in other sources of energies and become a self sustaining country. Did you know the Model T the first car by Ford was designed to run on ethanol, a form of alcohol? This is convenient as we could manufacture it in our own homes, like in stills. At the time gas was not yet popular or really existed and only when they did Prohibition did the cars switch.
